It was the most devastating stock market crash in the history of the United States, when taking into consideration the full extent and duration of its after effects.[1] The crash, which followed the London Stock Exchange's crash of September, signalled the beginning of the 12-year Great Depression that affected all Western industrialized countries.[2]

By grounding astrology in the less mystical-sounding business cycle, Williams inspired a new generation of financial astrologers. The most decorated is Arch Crawford, 77. Mark Hulbert, a ranker of financial newsletters, has rated Crawford the country’s top stock market timer a number of times. One of his biggest wins came in 2008, when he essentially called the crash. Crawford, a veteran of Merrill Lynch & Co., nails his CNBC soundbites and comes off as only mildly eccentric when discussing his craft. “I have the moon on the midheaven in Capricorn, which means I gain the attention of people without trying,” he tells me. “I have been written up in all the best places.”
I've posted a Guest Blog Entry at the Financial Uproar site entitled It's the End of the Investing World As We Know It (and I feel Fine). Juicy Excerpt: We are up against something very big here. When we discovered that it is not the sun that revolves around the earth but the earth that revolves around the sun we started a revolution in science. We tapped into many powerful insights in the years since as a result of that one, simple, fundamental change in our understanding of how the world…

In Thailand, Tesco Lotus was a joint venture of the Charoen Pokphand Group and Tesco, but facing criticism over the growth of hypermarkets CP Group sold its Tesco Lotus shares in 2003. In late 2005 Tesco acquired the 21 remaining Safeway/BP shops after Morrisons dissolved the Safeway/BP partnership.[35] In mid-2006 Tesco purchased an 80% stake in Casino's Leader Price supermarkets in Poland, which were then rebranded as small Tesco shops.[36]

Tech stocks, this year’s best-performing industry, will be in the spotlight, as executives from Twitter, Facebook and Google’s parent Alphabet begin testimony to Congress on Wednesday while Trump blasts about antitrust. Friday’s monthly payrolls data precedes a policy meeting by Federal Reserve later in the month, when the central bank is expected to raise interest rates for an eighth time since 2015.

In terms of the wider UK retail market, Tesco sales account for around one pound in every ten spent in British shops.[115] In 2007 it was reported that its share was even larger, with one pound in every seven spent going to Tesco.[116] In 2006, Inverness was branded as "Tescotown",[117][118] because well over 50p in every £1 spent on food is believed to be spent in its three Tesco shops.[119] By 2014 competition from other retailers led to a fall in Tesco's market share to 28.7%; this was the lowest level in a decade.[120]
I have no illusions about the Islamic world. 9/11 was only the start. Anybody who has read the Koran knows that it is a book of violence teaching violence against infidels. The Koran appeals to believers to conquer foreign lands and subjugate the natives. The last time the West has successfully forced out Islam was in 1683 at the Gates of Vienna. As a result, European civilisation could flourish and develop freedom and democracy. This time Europe will take a much more sinister turn, and a dark and bloody age will follow. As Europeans we have stopped believing in our own values. We are certainly not willing to defend them in this postmodern age of cultural relativism. We have become complacent and take our freedoms for granted to the extent that we cannot imagine any other circumstances. In future, Europeans, including the UK, will be truly tested. They will have to decide which values they believe in and what they are prepared to defend.
I recently wrote a Guest Blog Entry for the Money and Such blog entitled Why Long-Term Timing Works Even Though Short-Term Timing Doesn't. Juicy Excerpt: It turns out that those studies were misinterpreted. I mentioned that there are hundreds of studies showing that timing doesn’t work. Do you know how many of those studies examine whether long-term timing works or not? The answer is -- not one of them. All of the studies showing that timing doesn’t work examine short-term timing; they…
Tesco purchased the restaurant and cafe chain Giraffe in 2013 for £48.6 million.[43] In 2014, it began to open restaurants within some of its shops. The company set up Tesco Family Dining Ltd in 2014 as part of a new department called 'new food experience', including Core Cafes, Giraffe, Decks and Euphorium bakeries. That year, Tesco reached an agreement to take the in-shop cafes run by Compass Group and Elior back under its own control, so as to improve its dining offering.[44]
According to Citigroup retail analyst David McCarthy, "[Tesco has] pulled off a trick that I'm not aware of any other retailer achieving. That is to appeal to all segments of the market".[99] One plank of this strategy has been Tesco's use of its own-brand products, including the upmarket "Finest", mid-range Tesco brand and low-price "Value" encompassing several product categories such as food, beverage, home, clothing, Tesco Mobile and financial services.[100]

On Sunday, dogecoin, a meme-inspired cryptocurrency that was introduced as a joke in 2013, saw its market value increase to $2 billion just days after hitting $1 billion. Meanwhile, dentacoin, a dental care-focused digital currency that dubs itself "the blockchain solution for the global dental industry," briefly surpassed $2 billion in market capitalization on Sunday, according to Coinmarketcap data.
If you doubt that, go back to the last major slump, the near 60% decline in the Standard & Poor's 500 index from early October, 2007 to early March, 2009. It's easy to see with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight that it would have been smart to get out of the market the first week of October. But that was hardly obvious in real time. In fact, after dropping by almost 20% from October to early March 2008, stocks rallied for a 12% gain into the middle of May. We know now that this was just a brief respite from what would turn out to be a gut-wrenching bear market. But for all investors knew at the time, that 12% rebound could have signaled the end of the selloff and a resumption of the market's advance.
By NO means am I asking you to donate anything, as I put up the blog and post my thoughts for FREE, in order to help everyone out the best that I can. I did some digging on those predictions. And i discovered that you were right, later sai baba denied those predictions. However, many people predicted indo-china or indo-pak war. Like anton johanson, viswaranjan brahmachari etc. According to some of them india’s sovereighnity could come under threat. Do you see any such thing occuring in india’s future?
Milton Friedman's A Monetary History of the United States, co-written with Anna Schwartz, advances the argument that what made the "great contraction" so severe was not the downturn in the business cycle, protectionism, or the 1929 stock market crash in themselves, but the collapse of the banking system during three waves of panics over the 1930–33 period.[42]
But as investors, haunted by the trauma of the Great Recession, they have been mostly cautious. Many young people struggling to find work retreated back to school or into part-time work. For millennials living paycheck to paycheck and sometimes bunking with their parents, saving for retirement seemed a remote priority as they watched debts pile up.

I recently wrote a Guest Blog Entry for the Moolanomy blog entitled The Difference Between the Multiply-by-25 Rule and the 4-Percent Rule. Juicy Excerpt:  I believe strongly that the 4-Percent Rule at some times overstates and at other times understates the amount needed for a safe retirement; at times of high valuations the true safe withdrawal can drop to as low as 2 percent and at times of low valuations it can rise to as high as 9 percent. The Multiply-by-25 Rule isn’t by itself…

The new moon 24 Taurus will oppose my neptune 24 scorpio. I have Jupiter passing over my Neptune in scorpio in Oct this year, then the NN in cancer passing over my Jupiter 27° Cancer in dec. I’m trying to sell off all my real estate – has been truly stuck for many years and would love to clear the debts once and for all. My scorpio factors are 11, 17, 18 and 24 so hoping I have time before Uranus passes over to oppose them. Please can you give me some pointers as to how I should read the next 3 years? Many thanks as always.

Shadox at the Money and Such blog recently posted a blog entry entitled Passive Investing Is for Extremists: The Critque. Juicy Excerpt: His main claim relates no so much to how you invest in stocks, but rather to the percentage of your portfolio that is invested in this asset class, regardless of which stocks or stock funds you put your money into. I think that it is more correct to say that Rob is against passive asset allocation, than he is against passive investing as I understand…

{+/-} This is the most important market indicator.  Major financial down turns have correlated remarkably well with Mars-Jupiter-Saturn aspects.  A brief history illustrates:  The three-planet cycle correctly indicated a correction near August and December 2007.  The next Mars-Jupiter-Saturn aspect was in January 2009, correctly predicting the Great Recession.  Mars-Jupiter-Saturn again formed an aspect with one another in August 2010.  The market did reach a yearly low (9686 DJIA) the week ending July 2.  March 2011 was the next alignment, which correlated with a severe market reversal in August dropping to 10,818, and briefly breaking this low the week ending September 23, before climbing right above 12,000 by the end of the year.  There was another Mars-Jupiter-Saturn aspect peaking in July 2013 but this produced null effects.  The next market downturn was expected near February 2017 triggered by Mars opposition Jupiter.  This was realized the week ending November 4, 2016 with a short but sharp downturn.

“ Even in the days before perestroika, socialism was never a monolith. Within the Communist countries, the spectrum of socialism ranged from the quasi-market, quasi-syndicalist system of Yugoslavia to the centralized totalitarianism of neighboring Albania. One time I asked Professor von Mises, the great expert on the economics of socialism, at what point on this spectrum of statism would he designate a country as "socialist" or not. At that time, I wasn't sure that any definite criterion existed to make that sort of clear-cut judgment. And so I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and decisiveness of Mises's answer. "A stock market," he answered promptly. "A stock market is crucial to the existence of capitalism and private property. For it means that there is a functioning market in the exchange of private titles to the means of production. There can be no genuine private ownership of capital without a stock market: there can be no true socialism if such a market is allowed to exist." ”
Note: One reason why a Southern California large earthquake has not occurred is because there may be an alien UFO base off the coast of Los Angeles (LA), and the aliens may be preventing a Southern California San Andreas Fault quake which could damage their underwater base. They may be slowly releasing the earth stress to prevent a quake there. A lot of UFOs have been seen entering and leaving the deep water off the coast of L.A., so its very likely they have an underwater base there. Therefore it is unlikely there will be a major Southern California Quake in future years. Controlling earthquakes is easy for these aliens.

We have seen so much fluctuation in the market now because we have Pluto sitting on the Dow’s moon and is about to cross the threshold of the first house. This aspect is worse than the 29 crash chart. The 29 chart shows harsh times, difficulty and a major adjustment, hard times but this period is indicative of DEATH. And of course in its wake rebirth, but this will take a long time to accomplish, Pluto is a very slow moving planet. We also have another horrifying aspect going on which is similar to the 29 crash and that is the involvement of Uranus bringer of revolution, chaos, rebellion and lightening striking out of the blue. In 1929 Uranus was part of the GRAND CROSS in the current chart it is also part of the equation just as Pluto in 29 was conjuncting Uranus, again another similarity in terms of the planets involved.
Then there’s the issue of perceived value. Different groups define the “peak” of a meme by different standards. A meme’s lifespan is the opposite of a startup’s: when a startup goes public, it usually means an influx of money, or the founder cashing out and moving to a private island. When a meme goes public (that is, hits the mainstream), the early adopters declare the meme dead in the water and move on. At the exact time a meme might be the most valuable in terms of popularity — when it is being shared the most — others would argue the meme’s bubble has already burst. “The culture itself is very resistant to legitimacy,” Wink says. “It’s just this general feeling that going big is a death sentence. But in other communities, for example people who only visit Facebook, to them it’s not like, ‘Oh if I see this it’s dead,’ it’s like ‘Oh this is just the beginning and I’m going to be seeing this a lot more often.’”

If Sathya Sai Baba incarnates as Prema Sai then one of his tasks he says is to reform Christianity. I believe that this will happen and Christianity will survive into the distant future but it will be very far removed from the blind bigotry, self-righteousness, propaganda and fear mongering that we see today. Take the egotism out of it and let it’s message of love and service shine through and you are left with something worthy.

I couldn’t disagree with you more on the Mueller work. For one thing, the Russian social media shenanigans were far from tame. Tens of thousands of Americans in Democratic districts were tricked into “voting online” by Facebook posts. Many more turned against Clinton based on horrible lies expertly planted by the offenders. Consider that Trump won by a mere 70,000 votes over four states. While the U.S. surely got a taste of its own medicine, interfering in a nation’s election is serious business.
On September 4, 1929 the stock market hit an all time high as a result of the American industrial revolution right after the Labor Day weekend.  At that time banks were invested heavily in stocks and individual investors borrowed heavily on margin to buy stocks.  By October 24, 1929 the stock market was down 20%.  On October 28, 1929 the stock market was down another 13.5%.  On the historical day of October 29, 1929 the stock market dropped 11.5% to bring the Dow down a total of 39.6% from its high.  The market had lost 14 billion dollars of wealth.  A quote from the Wall Street Journal said “STOCKS STEADY AFTER DECLINE  Bankers State Support Continues- Spokesman Expresses View Hysteria is Passing. ” Wall Street Journal, 10/30/29  (The trading floor of the New York Stock

This chart was done for today 2-5-2018 on the big drop but the planets are close enough and it should clarify what the heck is going on. Transiting Mercury is right on the ascendant with the South Node/Sun/Venus all together going through the first house and conjuncting the natal Saturn/Pluto that are there. Venus indeed hit that natal Saturn today. OK that’s a clear market correction. Uranus is in the 3rd inconjuncting the Sun in the 7th – 3rd-newspapers/media/communication and the 7th legal issues, partnerships and in Virgo work/service. It seems this is very much about the political stuff going on. The Moon triggered the natal Neptune and opposes the transiting Uranus in the 3rd. People are nervous – freaked out, afraid. Now we have this applying Uranus making a square to the natal Uranus and this aspect is creating the division we see in our country and the inside revolution taking place inside our government. Those we thought would serve us are serving their own agenda – at war with the press – leaking, push back. The ruler of the 8th house is Mercury in this chart and indeed there is seems to be a consistent Mercury trigger when the Stock Market falls. Here we see Mercury triggering the whole thing as it hits the first house. But Mercury is a fast moving planet but the funky underlying aspects are still there. Transiting Pluto in Capricorn in the 12th – house of hidden enemies is making that applying T-Square from the other side (as it did in 1929) and Uranus is making an applying square to natal Uranus. This was what I was looking at when I identified 2019 as the time frame. I think this is a precursor to the much bigger market meltdown we’ll see as these aspects get closer. These bad aspects will be triggered throughout the next couple of years. So I will have to dig in more to find the next time frame for the next freak out.

“The kingdom affirms its total rejection of any threats and attempts to undermine it, whether by threatening to impose economic sanctions, using political pressures or repeating false accusations,” the government said  in a statement released to Saudi media. “The Kingdom also affirms that if it receives any action, it will respond with greater action.”

By 2014, Tesco appeared to have lost some of its appeal to customers.[109] The share price lost 49 per cent of its value up to October as it struggled to fend off competition from rivals Aldi and Lidl.[110] In October 2014, Tesco suspended 8 executives following its announcement the previous month that it had previously overstated its profits by £250 million. The misreporting resulted in almost £2.2 billion being wiped off the value of the company’s stock market value. The suspended executives included former commercial director Kevin Grace and UK managing director Chris Bush.[111][112] The profit overstatement was subsequently revised upwards to £263 million following an investigation by the accountancy firm Deloitte, and it was clarified that the inflated profit figure was the result of Tesco bringing forward rebates from suppliers. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) confirmed on 29 October 2014 that it was carrying out a criminal investigation into the accounting irregularities but declined to give further details.[113]
What could change the mood? An unexpected bank failure might. Or a spike in the price of oil. Or butterfly wings. Lots of things conceivably could, and a dramatic drop in stock prices is certainly among them. For a drop to have that effect, however, would require some extenuating circumstances. A folk-wisdom sense that the economy was “due” for a downturn might contribute. Or another random piece of bad news. But critical to a broader shift in mood would be the notion, lingering across markets and the public as a whole, that the government or the central bank might not quite be prepared to swing into mood-elevating activity. It’s like a trust exercise: you might lean a bit just to see if a friend is prepared to catch you, but not so much that you cannot recover, then a bit more, then maybe you start to worry that actually the friend seems frankly lackadaisical in his reaction, and then oof, over you go.

The un prepared survivors become canibals and begin to eat each other for food. Ted Turner and his elite buddies sit back and watch the show go down from satiltes in orbit and the cleansing procees commenses in time for the Hunger Games reset. The survivors run to the outskirts of the city to allow the rotting decalying bodies to finish decomposing, to return to scavange the abundance of resurces, batteries, etc
Tesco made a commitment to corporate social responsibility in the form of contributions of 1.87% in 2006 of its pre-tax profits to charities and local community organizations.[121] This compares favourably with Marks & Spencer, whose 1.51% is lower than Sainsbury's 7.02%.[122] This figure, £42 million, is lower than the amount of money reported to have been avoided in tax during 2007 (see below). Will Hutton, in his role as chief executive of The Work Foundation, in 2007 praised Tesco for leading the debate on corporate responsibility.[123] However Intelligent Giving has criticized the company for directing all "staff giving" support to the company's Charity of the Year.[124]
It is hard to imagine that a tumble in stock prices—even one as dramatic as Monday’s—could shake economic sentiment enough that policy-makers would need to try to lift anyone’s spirits, given how robust economic figures have been of late. To say the fundamentals are strong tempts fate, but the fundamentals are as strong as they have been in over a decade. Of course, it is when things seem rosiest that policy-makers are most prone to underreact to a bump in the road. This crash is probably nothing. But they always are, except for the times when they aren’t.
It is believed that Khashoggi was dismembered after being abducted by the Saudis, and all of the major western powers have expressed major concern about his fate.  But the Saudis insist that they didn’t have anything to do with his disappearance, and they are threatening “greater action” if any sanctions are imposed upon them.  The following comes from USA Today…

Behaviorists argue that investors often behave irrationally when making investment decisions thereby incorrectly pricing securities, which causes market inefficiencies, which, in turn, are opportunities to make money.[63] However, the whole notion of EMH is that these non-rational reactions to information cancel out, leaving the prices of stocks rationally determined.

What about the everyday investors who don’t have access to Sornette’s computational skills? The lesson is straightforward: as markets rise, and especially as they rise sharply, so does the danger of a crash. As they watch a sharp rise, investors should reduce their equity positions to capture gains made so far and limit the danger to their portfolios.
I've posted the third entry to my monthly column at the Balance Junkie site. It's called Liberals Came Closer Than Conservatives With Their Explanation of the Economic Crisis. Juicy Excerpt: The comedian John Stewart had a funny line re this aspect of the story. There was a debate in the early days that executives of firms in the financial sector should be denied bonuses because they would be out of work but for the bailouts they received from the U.S. taxpayers. One executive complained…
February of 2013 I had a dream prediction that Barrack Obama would be assassinated. Specifically, the dream precognition came twice, and was one of him being deleted as on a computer screen. So the assassination part was my interpretation, not the actual dream. I didn’t understand it the first time, then it repeated and I understood it, so it didn’t have to repeat again.

So take this time to go over your holdings and tally up how much you have in stocks and how much in bonds. If you're not sure of the asset make-up in some of your investments — which may be the case if you own funds that invest in a combination of stocks and bonds — plug the names or ticker symbols of your funds into Morningstar's Instant X-Ray tool, and you'll see how your portfolio overall is divvied up between stocks, bonds and cash.
AE good tip, and believe me I do Trek where the the Grizzlies Roam. I always carry a big sidearm and considered myself to be rather macho, but after watching serveral videos on bear attacks, I will still carry my gun but Bear Pepper Spray will be my first defense. Bear Spray may also be the best way to go when facing 4 federal agents at your front door, probably more affective and if and when they get you, there will be no murder charge against you. And BTW I just killed a big black bear with my bow. Trekker Out.

That said, professionals tend to be snobby about “sun sign” horoscopes. They use more complex “natal charts” that diagram the exact position of the sun, moon, and planets in relation to one another at the exact time and place of a person’s birth. Each planet signifies certain things (Jupiter means winning!) based largely on the angles at which it interfaces with other planets. Weingarten tells me I would need to study astrology for four years—“maybe three, with computers”—to grasp what’s going on up there. Astrology may be a pseudoscience, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to learn.

Tom Drake, owner of the the Canadian Finance Blog, has posted a Guest Blog Entry of mine titled The Five Big Benefits of Valuation-Informed Indexing: Juicy Excerpt: Buy-and-Hold purports to be a strategy for long-term investors. The reality, however, is that most Buy-and-Holders pay almost as much attention to the short-term ups and downs as stock investors have since the beginning of time. The reason is that Buy-and-Hold posits that price changes are the result of economic developments.…

Although we’ve seen more recognition of cryptocurrencies as investment vehicle, they’re still considered high-risk investments. Some see Bitcoin as safe-haven in case of a global crash due to its decentralized nature, the low correlation with the stock markets and the limited supply. Though, there is no reliable data available on how cryptocurrencies behave during a stock market crash. However, if you’re willing to take the risk, adding a small percentage of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency stocks to a diversified portfolio could be a worthwhile investment decision.

Stock market participation refers to the number of agents who buy and sell equity backed securities either directly or indirectly in a financial exchange. Participants are generally subdivided into three distinct sectors; households, institutions, and foreign traders. Direct participation occurs when any of the above entities buys or sells securities on its own behalf on an exchange. Indirect participation occurs when an institutional investor exchanges a stock on behalf of an individual or household. Indirect investment occurs in the form of pooled investment accounts, retirement accounts, and other managed financial accounts.
What about the everyday investors who don’t have access to Sornette’s computational skills? As they watch a sharp rise, investors should reduce their equity positions to capture gains made so far and limit the danger to their portfolios.
People warned about subprime mortgage loans, derivatives, and too much leverage, but nobody, to my knowledge, said a bursting housing bubble would cause a global crisis that would lead to the demise of venerable financial firms, require trillion-dollar taxpayer bailouts, and cause a recession that rivalled only the Great Depression in its magnitude.
The talk about Scottish independence is clearly proving to be a long term matter, despite it already being something that seems to have been going on forever!. Scotland is very divided but pro-independence supporters are adamant that they’ll get their wish in the next few years. Scots(of which I am one) on either side of the argument seem to be developing an unhealthy aggression towards each other, the longer it drags on.
Many factors likely contributed to the collapse of the stock market. Among the more prominent causes were the period of rampant speculation (those who had bought stocks on margin not only lost the value of their investment, they also owed money to the entities that had granted the loans for the stock purchases), tightening of credit by the Federal Reserve (in August 1929 the discount rate was raised from 5 percent to 6 percent), the proliferation of holding companies and investment trusts (which tended to create debt), a multitude of large bank loans that could not be liquidated, and an economic recession that had begun earlier in the summer.

Conversely, if production issues strike a major producer (imagine, for example, a civil war in Libya), then skyrocketing oil prices could also have a detrimental impact. Rising crude prices could lead to significantly higher inflation levels and sap consumers of discretionary income at the pump or in their homes via fuel oil. We saw something similar to this in 2008, when West Texas Intermediate made a run at $150 per barrel following escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
