If you believe in Taratam Vani [TV in brief] that manifested in India during 1657-94 AD – which can be termed as ‘Seventeenth Century Revelations’ – I feel after considerable thought that the Avatara of Kalki had manifested in the year 1618 AD in a personage called Shri Devachandraji [1581-1657 AD]. He is esoterically referred to in 2nd chapter of 12th Skandha of Bhagawatam as the horse called “Devadutta”. That happened after a 14 year long fascination and devotion/contemplation of the text of Bhagawatam. He one day accomplished his highest humanly attainable state of consciousness [that must have been, in my humble opinion, a state called ‘Turyateeta’ in the text of ‘Yogavasishtha’ when one has an audience with Paramatma].

Jones is widely credited with predicting, and profiting, from the stock-market crash on Oct. 19, 1987, which saw the Dow lose nearly 23% of its value, marking the largest one-day percentage decline for the blue-chip benchmark in its history. Jones founded Tudor in 1980 and became known for trading everything from currencies to commodities. His record has featured middling returns and an exodus of billions from his hedge fund in more recent years. According to a Forbes list of billionaires, Jones boasts a net worth of $4.7 billion

I predicted the big earthquake in Japan(Fukushima) about 6 weeks before it happened. I emailed several friends saying I thought there would be a large earthquake which would be more devastating in the long run than Haiti’s earthquake and I kept having this feeling. I didn’t think it would be in America but somewhere overseas. When Japan got it I knew that was my prediction and the feeling I had went away.
I just checked my sister’s chart and noticed that she has Mars in Taurus at 3 degrees. Her Birthday is Oct 20th, 1973 (Repalle, India) 1:20 PM IST. How is this going to effect her? She works in a Bank(!!) and has a 10 year old daughter(April 24th, 2008 Taurus). Her husband is an Aries who lost his job a month back. Since, I saw Taurus in 4th house, I am worried (hope it has got nothing to do with health of any family members). Appreciate any input, if you have time, please.

I think you may be way off with your prediction that the British Labour will make big gains in Scotland…the latest polls show SNP way in the lead with 58% and Scottish Labour falling back to 23%, there is NO way Labour will win in May. As ex Labour of 40 years, hell will freeze over before many of us will return. SNP are the party of Scotland and for the people of Scotland……we trust NO party that is run by London!

Regulation of margin requirements (by the Federal Reserve) was implemented after the Crash of 1929. Before that, speculators typically only needed to put up as little as 10 percent (or even less) of the total investment represented by the stocks purchased. Other rules may include the prohibition of free-riding: putting in an order to buy stocks without paying initially (there is normally a three-day grace period for delivery of the stock), but then selling them (before the three-days are up) and using part of the proceeds to make the original payment (assuming that the value of the stocks has not declined in the interim).

I agree completely with a previous poster, America has had enough of the Bush family. I don’t see any Republican winning after they have boxed themselves into the corner they are in. No way we would elect the hanging chad Governor who helped steal an election. Also, we have had enough Clinton’s, tho I am inclined to believe Hillary will win because it is time enough for a woman to be President.

We have entered a time when global events appear to be accelerating significantly.  Earlier today, bombs were mailed to major political leaders all over the United States.  In the Middle East, it looks like Israel and Hamas could go to war at any moment.  And we continue to see a rise in major seismic events – including three very large earthquakes that just hit the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
Indeed, Buffett's ability to tune out the noise and remain optimistic amid these downturns has played a vital role in his unrivaled performance over decades. Between 1965 and the end of 2017, Berkshire's market value has increased at an annualized rate of 20.9%, more than doubling the S&P 500's average annual growth of 9.9% during this same period. This 20.9% annualized growth rate for Berkshire's market value translates to a total return of 2,404,748%, obliterating the S&P 500's 15,508% gain during the same timeframe.
So far, the market has gone up in bad news, threat of war; Trump’s saying the stupidest things known to humankind and [is under threat of] getting damn near impeached. The market still goes up because money has nowhere else to go. So stocks are the only game in town. They’re going to go till they blow, and it looks like they’re getting close to blowing.
Some others have commented that his predictions have not all worked out. This is all discussed at length in the book; in such a field predictions are not infallible. About 40% of market crashes are caused by external events and so are not predictable. However he seems to have the S&P500 worked out. Last years he predicted a choppy rally in 1Q2003, then from 2Q2003 a major fall ending in 1h2004. So far so good.

Sornette probes major historical precedents, from the decades-long "tulip mania" in the Netherlands that wilted suddenly in 1637 to the South Sea Bubble that ended with the first huge market crash in England in 1720, to the Great Crash of October 1929 and Black Monday in 1987, to cite just a few. He concludes that most explanations other than cooperative self-organization fail to account for the subtle bubbles by which the markets lay the groundwork for catastrophe.
People trading stock will prefer to trade on the most popular exchange since this gives the largest number of potential counter parties (buyers for a seller, sellers for a buyer) and probably the best price. However, there have always been alternatives such as brokers trying to bring parties together to trade outside the exchange. Some third markets that were popular are Instinet, and later Island and Archipelago (the latter two have since been acquired by Nasdaq and NYSE, respectively). One advantage is that this avoids the commissions of the exchange. However, it also has problems such as adverse selection.[8] Financial regulators are probing dark pools.[9][10]

The U.S. stock market is in an amazing shape. Every day new all-time highs are set. This MUST be bullish, and investors should go all-in, right? Well, not that fast, at least not in our opinion. We see many signs that this rally is getting overextended, from an historical perspective. While we clearly said a year ago that we were bullish for this year, we did not see any stock market crash coming (a year ago). Right now, we are now on record with a forecast of a stock market crash in 2018, and it could take place as early as the first weeks / months of 2018.
The rising share prices encouraged more people to invest, hoping the share prices would rise further. Speculation thus fueled further rises and created an economic bubble. Because of margin buying, investors stood to lose large sums of money if the market turned down—or even failed to advance quickly enough. The average P/E (price to earnings) ratio of S&P Composite stocks was 32.6 in September 1929,[22] clearly above historical norms.[23] According to economist John Kenneth Galbraith, this exuberance also resulted in a large number of people placing their savings and money in leverage investment products like Goldman Sachs' "Blue Ridge trust" and "Shenandoah trust". These too crashed in 1929, resulting in losses to banks of $475 billion 2010 dollars ($533.06 billion in 2017).[24]

"Charlie and I view the marketable common stocks that Berkshire owns as interests in businesses, not as ticker symbols to be bought or sold based on their 'chart' patterns, the 'target' prices of analysts or the opinions of media pundits. Instead, we simply believe that if the businesses of the investees are successful (as we believe most will be) our investments will be successful as well."
In short selling, the trader borrows stock (usually from his brokerage which holds its clients' shares or its own shares on account to lend to short sellers) then sells it on the market, betting that the price will fall. The trader eventually buys back the stock, making money if the price fell in the meantime and losing money if it rose. Exiting a short position by buying back the stock is called "covering." This strategy may also be used by unscrupulous traders in illiquid or thinly traded markets to artificially lower the price of a stock. Hence most markets either prevent short selling or place restrictions on when and how a short sale can occur. The practice of naked shorting is illegal in most (but not all) stock markets.
Predictions or opinions it seems the two fit hand in glove and it don’t take a mystic to see the world is heading for testing times, it is always heading for testing times, I will take the predictions I read here with a pinch of optimistic salt. We see the world as we are not as the world is and if you look only for the bad that is what you will find, myself I have yet to read in a newspaper the billion random acts of kindness that take place every day because it never makes the newspapers. So ask yourself is no news good news.
The Dow Jones Industrials chart is one of those concerning charts. The area indicated with “0” shows that the index has risen with more than 30% in 12 months, without any meaningful correction. This rally may be amazing, but it is reaching a level never seen before in the last 12 years (including the 2007 rally and major top). All other instances of a 30% rise in 12 months are indicated on this chart (from 1 till 5):

Thus, Buffett has not said anything specific to the effect of “the stock market will crash in 2018.” He doesn’t have to make any such statement. An expert prediction is just that: a prediction. The smarter the expert, the less tendency there is to trust forecasts and prophecies. But if you use the expert prediction as a guide to understand what’s happening, you can detect trends. Thus, you can prepare and take appropriate actions that will not leave you stranded. If the negative predictions do materialize, you can take comfort in the fact you were ready. If they don’t, you can enjoy the favorable outcome with everyone else.

Originally a UK grocer, Tesco has expanded globally since the early 1990s, with operations in 11 other countries in the world. The company pulled out of the USA in 2013, but as of 2018 continues to see growth elsewhere. Since the 1960s, Tesco has diversified into areas such as the retailing of books, clothing, electronics, furniture, toys, petrol, software, financial services, telecoms, and internet services. In the 1990s Tesco repositioned itself from being a down-market high-volume low-cost retailer, to one designed to attract a range of social groups by offering products ranging from low-cost "Tesco Value" items (launched 1993[9]) to its "Tesco Finest" range. This broadening of its appeal was successful and saw the chain grow from 500 shops in the mid-1990s to 2,500 shops fifteen years later.[15]

No, timing is everything actually Beffett’s money was made in 1970s He got out of the Market completely in 1968 and closed his partnership because of high valuations not supported by anything – same thing in 2000, 2007,. Patience means nothing if you are 70 and not working. Sure, when you are young dollar cost works well, but we are not all the same age and cycle. Someday cash is king. COT.COM crash was like the Gold crash of 1976 everyone wanted in – that’s when to fear, when everyone wants out that’s when to buy. Schiller is right.

The mid-1980s were a time of strong economic optimism. From August 1982 to its peak in August 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) grew from 776 to 2722. The rise in market indices for the 19 largest markets in the world averaged 296 percent during this period. The average number of shares traded on the NYSE(New York Stock Exchange) had risen from 65 million shares to 181 million shares.[26]

Most people invest their hard-earned money in the stock market through mutual funds or ETFs. Often this is through a company-sponsored plan such as a 401(k). Watching the daily swings in the value of your holdings can seem quite mysterious. If you own a stock and research what the business does, you will start to understand the relationship between business performance and the value of your stock holding. In the short-term, a variety of crazy factors can push the price of your company’s stock around. But in the long-term, the price of your company (and stock) will be determined by its business performance. And it’s the long term-that matters. As you get to understand how this works for one company, you will begin to get a feel for how the markets behave, although I don’t know that anyone truly understands the gyrations of the stock markets.
There is no better way to invest over a long term than the stock market. I suggest no-load Vanguard index funds due to their solid performance and very low fees. They have several to choose from. You will probably need a thousand dollars to get started with them. Charles Schwab has no-load low fee index funds that you can open with as little as fifty (SWPPX), to one-hundred dollars. Then you need the confident approach of a turtle: easy, persistent, confident, rolling with the volatility and not panicking while gradually building wealth a basket at a time over a long haul, and out performing the rabbit minded investor. Remember: keep a steady, modest cutting expectation over a long haul.
Two things are gathering speed as I read your question. Malcolm Turnbull the Australian Prime Minister – a Scorpio – is about to see what it feels like to have Uranus (the revolution, the shock) move into his Seventh House of rivals, enemies and opponents, as well as partners – his wife Lucy but also his Deputy. This obviously happens with a bang, crash, wallop in the middle of May. Tony Abbott is also a Scorpio. The PM also has a Taurus name – TurnBULL and actually, the literal translation of Uranus in Taurus the bull, is ‘the bull is forced to turn.’ This means gold bullion and bull markets, symbolically, but also the cattle market. I am sure you know independent politicians are pushing for an end to the live export trade because of its cruelty. Put all that together and very close to May 16th, some will gain an awful lot, and some will lose. Massive highs and lows in Australian business, government and on the share markets. It just depends what side of history you’re on. Watch Julie Bishop.
Thanks to the Fed’s ZIRP, public pension funds cannot get safe 5% returns as they did in the past. Thus, public pension funds are being lured into investing in the stock market by the big financial firms. The stock market may very well crash soon, which means that millions of retired people are going to see their benefits being cut in the coming years.

After October 29, 1929 the market began to slowly mount a comeback.  By next summer of 1930 the market was up 30% from the low of October 29, 1929.  But no one would realize the nightmare that would follow.  By July of 1932 the stock market would hit a low that made the 1929 crash look like hiccup.  By the summer of 1932 the Dow had lost almost 89% of its value which was well more than 50% lower than the low of October 29, 1929.  This drop erased almost every gain from stock market since its birth in 1897.  It would take the stock market about 30 years to make it back to the 1929 highs though most investors would have recovered their losses in the 30’s through dividend returns.
If you can act at any time at all you may want to get the full measure of the new world. We are entering a duplicate of 1935 when the New Deal radically changed the United States. New banks came from nowhere, too. 1935 was also the year of dust storms having a big impact on farming, so the planet herself may force change this year. We are still yet to see Uranus enter Taurus so time will tell. 1935 was also about the devaluation of currency and this seems very likely with a couple of nations which will influence business, world trade and property – perhaps yours. I hope you can see how very different it’s all going to be out there. People can and will gain as Jupiter (abundance) is in Scorpio, the other money sign apart from Taurus. Once Jupiter passes 20 Scorpio a little later on this year, and until November – your Taurus-Scorpio placements at the late degrees will either be conjuncted or opposed by the planet of opportunity, growth, optimism and expansion. So your chances are excellent. The choice is yours – but don’t assume anything that seems certain now, will necessarily be there after May. Cryptocurrency is the wild card.
And concerning the planet Pluto: in Nov. 2005 there was a very significant astronomy event: it was announced that two more moons of Pluto have been discovered, the previous moon Charon having been discovered in 1978, and is 12024 miles from Pluto, and 752 miles wide, and orbits Pluto in 6.4 days. Pluto being one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Death, as explained on this page, this is very significant. This is another sign that Death will be riding soon. One of the newly discovered moons is 30-80 miles wide, and 30,000 miles from Pluto, and orbits Pluto every 25.5 days. The other new moon is 35-100 miles wide, and 40,000 miles from Pluto, and orbits Pluto every 38 days. Note that on July 14 2015 the NASA New Horizons spacecraft reached Pluto, so will the Fourth Horseman Death ride in 2018 - 2020?

Likewise, stock prices have defeated all forecasting efforts, and may well belong to the same set of basic unpredictability. While occasionally somebody may seem to be on the right side of an investment ahead of a big move, this is a far cry from actually forecasting such move with any kind of precision in terms of timing and size. For each “hunch” that is successful, a myriad others fail. Despite anecdotes, there seems to be no clear evidence that investors who get a big move “right” are anything but lucky.

I've posted a Guest Blog Entry at the Free From Broke site called How to Change Your Stock Allocation in Response to Valuation Shifts. Juicy Excerpt: Stock valuations do not jump randomly from super-low levels to super-high levels.  They change gradually over a 30-year or 35-year time period.  They start at super-low levels, move to fair-value levels, continue moving up until they reach insanely high levels, and then crash hard. We are today at a P/E10 of 21, working our way down from…

On May 6, 2010, the stock market was having a pretty negative day, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down by over 300 points with just over an hour left in the trading session. At approximately 2:42 p.m. EST, the market dropped by another 600 points in five minutes. Keep in mind that the Dow was only at about 10,500 at the time, so this was a big drop, percentage-wise.
Perhaps the likeliest reason for the next stock market crash could be an escalating trade spat between the United States and China. After the U.S. initially placed tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods, China retaliated with tariffs of its own on an equal value of imported U.S. goods. Now the two sides are threatening to one-up the other with tariffs.
