The Mayan prophecies are quite correct; it is that we expected an immediate change to occur when it is going to be gradual. Considering that the new age is based on the feminine, all changes will be passive; at times that passive that these changes are going to be quite unnoticeable to many people at first. The people who notice these consciousness changes will lead the world towards and through this conscious change.
Academic Researcher Silenced By Threats to Get Him Fired From His Job After Showing Dangers of Buy-and-Hold Investing Strategies — Teaser VersionThis is a briefer version of the same article, the article that I believe is the most important one that I have written in my 30-year journalism career. I believe that the story told at this web site is the most important economic and political story of any of our lifetimes and this article sums up the key points in one little package of dynamite. If Buy-and-Hold were a legitimate strategy, every Buy-and-Holder would be ashamed to learn that even one academic researcher was threatened. We cannot move forward so long as the intimidation tactics of the Buy-and-Holders dominate all discussions of what works in stock investing. I use this short version of the article in my e-mail campaigns aimed at getting researcher and stock advisors and bloggers and journalists and policymakers involved in our effort to open the internet up to honest posting on ALL investing topics. Please help get others involved if you can. We are all in this together!

The crash on October 19, 1987, a date that is also known as Black Monday, was the climactic culmination of a market decline that had begun five days before on October 14. The DJIA fell 3.81 percent on October 14, followed by another 4.60 percent drop on Friday, October 16. On Black Monday, the Dow Jones Industrials Average plummeted 508 points, losing 22.6% of its value in one day. The S&P 500 dropped 20.4%, falling from 282.7 to 225.06. The NASDAQ Composite lost only 11.3%, not because of restraint on the part of sellers, but because the NASDAQ market system failed. Deluged with sell orders, many stocks on the NYSE faced trading halts and delays. Of the 2,257 NYSE-listed stocks, there were 195 trading delays and halts during the day.[27] The NASDAQ market fared much worse. Because of its reliance on a "market making" system that allowed market makers to withdraw from trading, liquidity in NASDAQ stocks dried up. Trading in many stocks encountered a pathological condition where the bid price for a stock exceeded the ask price. These "locked" conditions severely curtailed trading. On October 19, trading in Microsoft shares on the NASDAQ lasted a total of 54 minutes.

A spin-off of the typical Drake meme, where famous hedge fund manager Michael Burry shows his preference for Subprime over the clothing brand Supreme. Burry is famous because he predicted the subprime mortgage crisis and made money by shorting the market. This scene is from the movie The Big Short, in which Burry is portrayed by actor Christian Bale. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, then what the hell are you doing looking at stock market memes?

So happy to have found your insight! I am a bit blown away by what I am reading about the upcoming changes to the world economy. Especially when I saw my chart – I have south node in Taurus, Jupiter in Taurus, north node Scorpio, and Uranus in Scorpio, in their natural houses – these seem like all the same actors you are talking about! I also have a lot going on in Cancer (Sun, Mercury, more) and the fourth house.
In 2007, Warren Buffett bet hedge fund manager Ted Seides $1 million for charity that a fund indexed to the S&P 500 would beat five of Seides’s favorite hedge funds over 10 years. The S&P returned 7.1 percent annually; the five funds returned 2.2 percent. Buffett didn’t just win the bet, he won an argument about investing. Professional money managers look for patterns in the markets or divine signs on a balance sheet. Sometimes their systems work well for a while. But time, or Cronus, grinds most of them down, and few beat the S&P in the long run.
To help the US government quell the civil unrest. This reminded me of Mr Hamilton-Parker’s past prediction of Canadian troops coming to the aid of the US to put an end to civil unrest. In a subsequent video he said that that was a wrong prediction as it did not happen. Since the Naadi leaves predict the same, could it be that this event is still in the future?
The scientific study of complex systems has transformed a wide range of disciplines in recent years, enabling researchers in both the natural and social sciences to model and predict phenomena as diverse as earthquakes, global warming, demographic patterns, financial crises, and the failure of materials. In this book, Didier Sornette boldly applies his varied experience in these areas to propose a simple, powerful, and general theory of how, why, and when stock markets crash.
Shilling is particularly worried about the $8 trillion in dollar-denominated emerging-market corporate and sovereign debt, especially as the U.S. dollar rises along with interest rates. “The problem is as the dollar increases,” he said, “it gets tougher and tougher for them to service [that debt] because it takes more and more of their local currency to do so.” Of that, $249 billion must be repaid or refinanced through next year, Bloomberg reported.
One mitigation strategy has been the introduction of trading curbs, also known as "circuit breakers", which are a trading halt in the cash market and the corresponding trading halt in the derivative markets triggered by the halt in the cash market, all of which are affected based on substantial movements in a broad market indicator. Since their inception, circuit breakers have been modified to prevent both speculative gains and dramatic losses within a small time frame.[43]
America, Future, and Jobs: MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAT The Stock Market has been creating tremendous benefits for our country in the form of not only Record Setting Stock Prices, but present and future Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. Seven TRILLION dollars of value created since our big election win! Donald J. Trump The Stock Market has been creating TREMENDOUS benefits for our country!🇺🇸

A light-hearted look back on the six key lessons that investors can learn from studying stock market history. There are better times to invest in equities than others, but - crucially - we only know whether now is a good time or not with the benefit of hindsight. The good news is that, even if you invest just as markets are about to tumble - as they did in 1929, for example - you will be rewarded if you hold tight and resist the temptation to keep tinkering with your portfolio.
Another not so great thing going on is a Saturn return happening in the Dow’s chart. This happens to all of us between the ages of 27 to 30 years old and if you’ve been a good girl or boy, good things manifest, your career takes off but so does your responsability. This is a manifesting aspect, a maturing aspect, making people or entities reap the karma of their past, so if you’ve been bad, it’s not a good time. It’s not uncommon for people who have lived a reckless life to die during this aspect or become very ill or near death.
Ekansh Mittal, Research Analyst, Katalyst Wealth, said market movement is like a pendulum; it keeps swinging between extremes. In 2017 and early 2018, smallcaps and midcaps were approaching higher extremes and now smallcaps and midcaps are approaching lower extremes. While one cannot predict market tops or bottoms, one can prepare and sow the seeds for future gains.”
In the middle of the 13th century, Venetian bankers began to trade in government securities. In 1351 the Venetian government outlawed spreading rumors intended to lower the price of government funds. Bankers in Pisa, Verona, Genoa and Florence also began trading in government securities during the 14th century. This was only possible because these were independent city-states not ruled by a duke but a council of influential citizens. Italian companies were also the first to issue shares. Companies in England and the Low Countries followed in the 16th century.

It truly does appear that the elements for a “perfect storm” are beginning to come together.  We have been enjoying a period of relative stability for so long that many Americans have allowed themselves to become lulled into a state of complacency.  That is a huge mistake, because all along we have been steamrolling toward disaster, and nothing has been done to alter our course.
People trading stock will prefer to trade on the most popular exchange since this gives the largest number of potential counter parties (buyers for a seller, sellers for a buyer) and probably the best price. However, there have always been alternatives such as brokers trying to bring parties together to trade outside the exchange. Some third markets that were popular are Instinet, and later Island and Archipelago (the latter two have since been acquired by Nasdaq and NYSE, respectively). One advantage is that this avoids the commissions of the exchange. However, it also has problems such as adverse selection.[8] Financial regulators are probing dark pools.[9][10]
Other scientists disagree with this notion, and note that market crashes are indeed “special.” Professor Didier Sornette, for example, a physicist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, argued that a market crash is not simply a scaled-up version of a normal down day but a true outlier to market behavior. In fact, he claims that ahead of critical points the market starts giving off some clues. His work focuses on interpreting these clues and identify when a bubble may be forming and, crucially, when it ends.
Martial law is now implemented, the Natzi cabal suspends the election, and congratulate Donal Trump for his PR stunt, and he laughs his ass off because he happy to finally see the New World Oder commensing. Mr, you should see what we do to tritors, in regard to Edward Snowden. The drones have the locations of the people of interest and begin tactical strikes in broad daylight on veterans, patriots, whites, etc. MS 13, he mexican army, the jihadist enter Texas and start launch attacks, russain pulls into the Texas guld and does and anphibian invasion, China attacks Texas with the Mexacn army from the south, the russians come down from Colorado from the East North and south. Not a nice time or place to be in as i see.

I recently posted a Guest Blog Entry at the Budgeting in the Fun Stuff blog. It's called The Last Days of Stock Investing Risk. Juicy Excerpt: You can never eliminate risk entirely because short-term returns are not at all predictable. But there is now 33 years of peer-reviewed research showing that long-term returns are highly predictable for those who consider valuations. Risk is optional! Go with a high stock allocation when prices are low, a moderate stock allocation when prices are at…
The failure set off a worldwide run on US gold deposits (i.e. the dollar), and forced the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates into the slump. Some 4,000 banks and other lenders ultimately failed. Also, the uptick rule,[37] which allowed short selling only when the last tick in a stock's price was positive, was implemented after the 1929 market crash to prevent short sellers from driving the price of a stock down in a bear raid.[38]
IN AUGUST 1999 WHEN PUTIN FIRST ROSE TO POWER IN RUSSIA, THERE WAS A RARE GRAND CROSS ASTROLOGY PATTERN OF PLANETS IN A CROSS SHAPE, AND A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE OVER EUROPE, INDICATING THAT PUTIN IS THE EVIL ANTICHRIST OF REVELATION 13 WHOSE NUMBER IS 666. Putin is attempting to destroy NATO and take over the world. Do not underestimate Putin - Putin has hypnosis mind control powers he can use to control people, hypnotizing them by staring at them, his eyes are said to be intense and hypnotizing. Others who could hypnotize people with their gaze were Rasputin and Hitler.
The CAPE ratio (also known as Shiller P/E ratio) is a long term cyclically adjusted measure of equity valuations devised by the respected economist Robert Shiller. The CAPE ratio has been at historically high level for several years, although high valuations alone do not mean a crash is imminent. Whether US stock prices today are in a stock bubble or not is debatable. In general, bubbles do not necessarily imply a crash, unless there is a catalyst.
I think it is such a pity that we are still, even now, locking horns with Russia. I believed that that this cloud of distrust and ill will had been dissipated, now it looms darker than ever. In the West we are as guilty on all levels as Russia on letting this happen, with Ukraine broken as the piggy in the middle. We have, stupidly, fallen hook, line and sinker into this pit and I don’t think Obama has any solutions to this. Him and Putin despise each other. We certainly should not be building the structures to keep Russia out for another generation.
In 1918, world flu epidemic, as the Red Beast formed in Russia with the Russian Revolution (the beginning of the Antichrist's Evil Empire in Russia). And a bird flu virus infecting chickens and birds in Asia is a concern, since it could mutate and combine with swine flu and become a human pandemic. The Swine Flu virus spreading in 2018 - 2019 could combine with Bird Flu, creating a more deadly virus.
My main predictions in this area made in 2016 for 2017 was that North Korea would become the focus of world attention and conflict. My main prediction about this last year said: “Kim Jong-un will be fall from power later in the year – maybe December 2017 or January 2018” I know it looks like we are on the brink of war but my feeling is that he will be deposed by his own people.  This remains part of my predictions for the time ahead. I also spoke of an arms race happening in the Far East and provocation from China forcing Japan to initiate an arms race. We saw provocations from China so this prediction is still on the cards. I also predicted a “serious threat of escalating conflict between China and India” – which has happened.
I just checked my sister’s chart and noticed that she has Mars in Taurus at 3 degrees. Her Birthday is Oct 20th, 1973 (Repalle, India) 1:20 PM IST. How is this going to effect her? She works in a Bank(!!) and has a 10 year old daughter(April 24th, 2008 Taurus). Her husband is an Aries who lost his job a month back. Since, I saw Taurus in 4th house, I am worried (hope it has got nothing to do with health of any family members). Appreciate any input, if you have time, please.

Let’s face it.  The idea of trading on the stock market can be intimidating, especially if you’re only introduction to it has been through movies or television shows; however, that fear can now subside.  When you purchase this awesomely informative book, you’ll never have to again worry about not knowing the basics of the stock market.  Even if you’re not completely sure that you want to actually spend your money in this way, having a general understanding of how the stock market works if often beneficial when you’re watching the news or even when you’re noticing entertainment or technological trends.  If you want to be grounded in how our national and international economy works for the sole reason that you’ve always been interested in the subject, then what are you waiting for?  Download this book right now!
The aspiring financial astrologer must first grasp the basics of regular astrology. Everything revolves around the zodiac calendar, a 360-degree belt of sky, drawn from the perspective of Earth, organized into 12 30-degree wedges. These are called Libra and Taurus and so forth. A person’s horoscope sign thus corresponds to the month of the zodiac calendar through which the sun appears to be “moving” around Earth when she was born. (Which makes astrology geocentric. Never mind Copernicus.)

Psychics and clairvoyants are trying to attempt too many things at a time. That is not possible. World is all confusion, chaos, pestilence, trouble all around. Power crazy politicians, money greedy business people, bloody minded masses world wide, rut mills universities. Many factors force thousands real genuine psychics clairvoyants to stay unknown. World is heading fast toward its total annihilation. Can scientists see it ?
Why Buy-and-Hold Investing Can Never WorkThe Buy-and-Holders are not evil people. They are smart and good people. They made a mistake. They were so excited about their early findings that they experienced cognitive dissonance when the mistake was revealed. They painted themselves into a corner and now don’t know how to get out. This article explains how the mistake was made and how we came to find ourselves in the trap we are in today.
I was hoping that you wouldn’t predict about India-Pakistan conflict this year. That’s because I had heard from somebody else several months ago about Pakistan and China together attacking India in 2018, and was hoping that he was wrong. Is it going to be a war or is it going to be a small conflict? God may mitigate the situation but to what extent? I live in India, not too far from Pakistani border. I’m wondering if I should start packing my bags.
The eruption of Vesuvius and the evacuation of Naples. (Happening 6/10 Naples has had some of the worst earthquakes in many years. See Express 17 August 2018) Also, there’s a serious earthquake in New Zealand. In fact, 2018 will see a general increase in seismic activity worldwide and in unexpected places that have been earthquake free for a millennium. In 2017 for 2018 video, I also mention Hawaii (Correct 10:10 – already we are seeing unprecedented worldwide seismic activity and earthquakes.) Note I also predicted on the Russian Television and on the YouTube video that we would have unprecedented earthquakes including Hawaii)
I've posted a Guest Blog Entry at the My Personal Finance Journey site called The Magic (and Limits) of Using Historical Data to Guide Your Investing Decisions. Juicy Excerpt: Whenever I find myself saying something negative about Buy-and-Hold (which is often!), I make it a point to add a mention somewhere of how much respect and affection and gratitude I feel for the Buy-and-Holders. The "T" in my name was at the "t" in "stranger". You will see on this site that I am one of the millions of American Christian supporters of Israel. And also, concerning this web site, this New Testament King James Bible Code matrix, at John 14:23 - Revelation 7:9, was found by searching for REVELATION THIRTEEN (since "" is the name of this web site), my name TCHASE, and also note in this matrix there is: WEB (as in web site), AND WE HAVE SEEN, LOOKING FOR THAT BLESSED HOPE, THE SPIRIT OF THE WORLD, TO SPEAK UNTO THE PEOPLE, THEY TOOK KNOWLEDGE, BE REVEALED, THE TRUTH. I think these words describe what this web site is about. John 8:32: "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free".

The bottom line: As a sandpile grows, all sort of sand “avalanches” take place, but it is impossible to predict how big or how often they occur. Sometimes a few grains roll down the slope, while occasionally a large avalanche carves a big section of the sandpile. The size and frequency of those avalanches, mathematically speaking, bear a notable resemblance to the size and frequency of earthquakes, solar flares, river floods, forest fires, and stock market returns. Intriguingly, all of them have defied attempts at prediction. The question is why.
Set forth below is the text of a comment that I recently posted to the discussion thread for another blog entry at this site: Your analogy is flawed, not to mention stupid, not to mention horribly insulting to sexual assault victims. Cosby’s victims really did do all they could. You haven’t. You could create new accounts on every single board you were banned from TODAY. You could start writing your next book TODAY. You could start making a difference TODAY. No one is stopping you. You simply choose not to. As you should have realized by now, society doesn’t have much sympathy for someone who chooses to be a helpless victim. I’m not willing to create new accounts. If I did that, would I use my real name or not? If I used my real name, I would just be banned again. If I didn’t, I would essentially be lying. I would be appearing at a board that banned me under another name, knowing that I would be banned if I appeared under my true name. Huh? What the f? I have done nothing to justify a ban. Not once. I have nothing to be ashamed of. I have helped people. I have pointed out the errors in the Buy-and-Hold retirement studies. People need to know about those errors. A failed retirement is a serious life setback. I am happy to lend my efforts to any board that will have me and where I can help out. But I don’t approve of games-playing re these matters. I am Rob Bennett. I pointed out the error in the Buy-and-Hold retirement studies in a post that I put to the Motley Fool board on early retirement on the morning of May 13, 2002. The post generated a huge reaction, some insanely positive and some insanely negative. I am happy to answer any questions that anyone has, both those advanced by my supporters and those advanced by my critics. But I am not interested in pretending to be someone other than who I am. I am the fellow who put forward that famous post, I am proud of it, and I see no reason to make an effort to appear anywhere under another name. I hope that helps a small bit, my dear Goon friend. Dobbies is a chain of garden centres across Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. Tesco completed its acquisition of Dobbies in 2008, and the company continued to trade under its own brand, from its own head office in Melville, near Edinburgh. On 17 June 2016, Tesco sold the company on to a group of investors led by Midlothian Capital Partners and Hattington Capital for £217 million.[89]

Finally, once you feel you've got a portfolio that will provide sufficient gains during rising markets and enough protection during routs so you'll be able to hang on until the eventual recovery, stick with that mix, except for occasional rebalancing, regardless of what's going on in the market. The idea is to make sure your portfolio doesn't become too aggressive during market upswings or too conservative when stocks take a hit.
This fast-paced, gripping (and all-too-timely) account of the market crash of October 1929 puts a human face on the crisis. Blumenthal, the Dallas bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal, sets the scene in the affluent post-Great War society: she reproduces the famous January 1929 cartoon from Forbes magazine (a frenetic crowd grasping at a ticker tape) and her statement "Executives who had spent their lives building solid reputations cut secret deals in pursuit of their own stock-market riches" may send a shiver down the spines of older readers aware of recent corporate scandals. The author deciphers market terms such as bull and bear, stock and bond in lucidly worded sidebars and describes the convergence of speculation, optimism and greed that primed the market for failure. Throughout, Blumenthal relates the impact of historical developments on everyday citizens. Supported by archival photographs, cartoons and documents, the text is rife with atmospheric detail about the customs of the stock exchange (from buttonhole flowers to the opening and closing gongs). Other asides, such as the first appearance of women on the exchange floor, or the rise (and fall) of immigrant Michael J. Meehan, who championed the stock of Radio Corporation, continue to keep the focus on the human element. Blumenthal ably chronicles the six-day descent and exposes the personalities, backroom machinations and scandals while debunking several popular myths about the crash (e.g., that it caused mass suicide and the Great Depression). A compelling portrait of a defining moment in American history. Ages 12-up.
Some exchanges are physical locations where transactions are carried out on a trading floor, by a method known as open outcry. This method is used in some stock exchanges and commodity exchanges, and involves traders shouting bid and offer prices. The other type of stock exchange has a network of computers where trades are made electronically. An example of such an exchange is the NASDAQ.
Predictions or opinions it seems the two fit hand in glove and it don’t take a mystic to see the world is heading for testing times, it is always heading for testing times, I will take the predictions I read here with a pinch of optimistic salt. We see the world as we are not as the world is and if you look only for the bad that is what you will find, myself I have yet to read in a newspaper the billion random acts of kindness that take place every day because it never makes the newspapers. So ask yourself is no news good news.

I think you may be way off with your prediction that the British Labour will make big gains in Scotland…the latest polls show SNP way in the lead with 58% and Scottish Labour falling back to 23%, there is NO way Labour will win in May. As ex Labour of 40 years, hell will freeze over before many of us will return. SNP are the party of Scotland and for the people of Scotland……we trust NO party that is run by London!

I recently posted a Guest Blog Entry at the Moolanomy blog entitled Stock Volatility Kills. Juicy Excerpt: Don’t count all the gains you obtain from stocks as real. The U.S. economy has for a long time been sufficiently productive to finance an annual increase in stock prices of about 6.5 percent real. In years when stock prices go up by that much, the gains really are yours to keep. But in the 1990s there were years when stock prices went up by 20 percent or 25 percent or even 30 percent.…

Any investor or investment professional who seeks a genuine understanding of looming financial disasters should read this book. Physicists, geologists, biologists, economists, and others will welcome Why Stock Markets Crash as a highly original "scientific tale," as Sornette aptly puts it, of the exciting and sometimes fearsome--but no longer quite so unfathomable--world of stock markets.
Tesco made a commitment to corporate social responsibility in the form of contributions of 1.87% in 2006 of its pre-tax profits to charities and local community organizations.[121] This compares favourably with Marks & Spencer, whose 1.51% is lower than Sainsbury's 7.02%.[122] This figure, £42 million, is lower than the amount of money reported to have been avoided in tax during 2007 (see below). Will Hutton, in his role as chief executive of The Work Foundation, in 2007 praised Tesco for leading the debate on corporate responsibility.[123] However Intelligent Giving has criticized the company for directing all "staff giving" support to the company's Charity of the Year.[124]
Note that Russian President Putin began his rise to power in Russia in August 1999, at the time of the Grand Cross Astrology pattern and solar eclipse over Europe, becoming Prime Minister for Yeltsin (second-in-command in Russia) on August 9, 1999. On December 31, 1999, Putin became Russia's President. And Mars is war - war will occur when Putin is in power. "King of the Mongols" - that Putin will be a tyrant rising to power in Asia.
I’m a bit late to this. Today the IMF live streamed an hour discussion about changes to global economy and it mirrored what you’ve been tracking and writing. The video is likely still on IMF site to watch. It was good tho scary. They said countries should embrace service economies entered on empathy especially targeting aging seniors. You’d like the video so wanted to mention it as you give us so much.
The author discusses the application of non-linear modeling techniques on the financial market. Given the behavior of financial market is the result of the inter-working of countless investors, it's very surprising and interesting to see these modeling techniques actually produce some very good results. In particular, the author presents the logic behind the formation and the bursting of bubbles, and, more importantly, provides insight of what we can expect from the financial market in the long term.
(6) The Cassini spacecraft passed by earth on August 17, 1999, on the same day as a Grand Cross Astrology pattern, the most unusual Astrology pattern of the last 2000 years. The planets aligned in a cross shape. And that was a week after a solar eclipse over Europe. Note that Vladimir Putin became Prime Minister in Russia in August 1999, this Grand Cross and eclipse may relate to Putin's rise to power as the Antichrist, and the Cassini probe to Saturn/Satan may be a holographic parallel to Putin's rise to becoming Antichrist. Since the Cassini spacecraft landed a probe on Titan in Jan. 2005, this could be related to the rise of the Antichrist (Putin), note that Titan in Greek (the language of the Book of Revelation) totals 666, see this page on Greek.
In May 2007, it was revealed that Tesco had moved the head office of its online operations to Switzerland. This allows it to sell CDs, DVDs and electronic games through its web site without charging value-added tax (VAT).[144] The operation had previously been run from Jersey, but had been closed by authorities who feared damage to the island's reputation.[144] In June 2008, the government announced that it was closing a tax loophole being used by Tesco.[145] The scheme, identified by British magazine Private Eye, utilized offshore holding companies in Luxembourg and partnership agreements to reduce corporation tax liability by up to £50 million a year.[145] Another scheme previously identified by Private Eye involved depositing £1 billion in a Swiss partnership, and then loaning that money to overseas Tesco shops, so that profit could be transferred indirectly through interest payments. This scheme was still in operation in June 2008 and was estimated to be costing the UK exchequer up to £20 million a year in corporation tax.[145] Tax expert Richard Murphy has provided an analysis of this avoidance structure.[146]
Last time I spoke about right-wing riots in Germany. This too has happened and will continue to get worse through 2018. There will continue to be a cultural division within Germany and France and they will see worsening racial troubles and riots ahead. (CORRECT 10/10 Riots in Germany see 27th August “Guardian protests in the eastern city of Chemnitz” )

“ The stock market — the daytime adventure serial of the well-to-do — would not be the stock market if it did not have its ups and downs. (...) And it has many other distinctive characteristics. Apart from the economic advantages and disadvantages of stock exchanges — the advantage that they provide a free flow of capital to finance industrial expansion, for instance, and the disadvantage that they provide an all too convenient way for the unlucky, the imprudent, and the gullible to lose their money — their development has created a whole pattern of social behavior, complete with customs, language, and predictable responses to given events. What is truly extraordinary is the speed with which this pattern emerged full blown following the establishment, in 1611, of the world's first important stock exchange — a roofless courtyard in Amsterdam — and the degree to which it persists (with variations, it is true) on the New York Stock Exchange in the nineteen-sixties. Present-day stock trading in the United States — a bewilderingly vast enterprise, involving millions of miles of private telegraph wires, computers that can read and copy the Manhattan Telephone Directory in three minutes, and over twenty million stockholder participants — would seem to be a far cry from a handful of seventeenth-century Dutchmen haggling in the rain. But the field marks are much the same. The first stock exchange was, inadvertently, a laboratory in which new human reactions were revealed. By the same token, the New York Stock Exchange is also a sociological test tube, forever contributing to the human species' self-understanding. The behaviour of the pioneering Dutch stock traders is ably documented in a book entitled “Confusion of Confusions,” written by a plunger on the Amsterdam market named Joseph de la Vega; originally published in 1688, (...) ”
The Investor’s Scenario SurferI have run this calculator hundreds of time. it is in my assessment the most powerful tool for learning how stock investing works available today. You have the option of choosing a new stock allocation in each year of a realistic 30-year sequence of returns. You can compare your results with what you would have achieved with a Buy-and-Hold strategy. You will find that Valuation-Informed Indexing strategies yield larger portfolios in 90 percent of your tests of the concept. What matters is what happens in the long term! This tool tells you what strategies give the best results in the long term.
If you doubt that, go back to the last major slump, the near 60% decline in the Standard & Poor's 500 index from early October, 2007 to early March, 2009. It's easy to see with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight that it would have been smart to get out of the market the first week of October. But that was hardly obvious in real time. In fact, after dropping by almost 20% from October to early March 2008, stocks rallied for a 12% gain into the middle of May. We know now that this was just a brief respite from what would turn out to be a gut-wrenching bear market. But for all investors knew at the time, that 12% rebound could have signaled the end of the selloff and a resumption of the market's advance.

After October 29, 1929 the market began to slowly mount a comeback.  By next summer of 1930 the market was up 30% from the low of October 29, 1929.  But no one would realize the nightmare that would follow.  By July of 1932 the stock market would hit a low that made the 1929 crash look like hiccup.  By the summer of 1932 the Dow had lost almost 89% of its value which was well more than 50% lower than the low of October 29, 1929.  This drop erased almost every gain from stock market since its birth in 1897.  It would take the stock market about 30 years to make it back to the 1929 highs though most investors would have recovered their losses in the 30’s through dividend returns.

I recently wrote a Guest Blog Entry for the  Weakonomics blog entitled The Bankers Did Not Do This to Us! Juicy Excerpt: Did they stick all the money in suitcases and catch a plane to another time zone? Some good comments. Juicy Excerpt: I’m getting more and more tired of people shoving blame back and forth. I frankly, could care less whose fault it is. I’d rather spend time trying to find the best solution…
George, the blogger at the Investing Online AI blog, has written a post advocating the use of P/E10 to know when it is dangerous to own stocks. George learned about Valuation-Informed Indexing from a Guest Blog Entry that I wrote at another site and we had a long telephone conversation the other night in which we discussed the wonders of the P/E10 stock valuation metric. His blog entry is titled P/E10 -- A Tool for Investing. Juicy Excerpt: If there were a way to know if the market was…
I've posted a Guest Blog Entry at the Barbara Friedberg Personal Finance blog titled Predicting Stock Returns for Fun and Profit. Juicy Excerpt: My guess is that most people don’t bother trying to make long-term predictions because they assume it would take a lot of work to pull them off. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Every factor that affects the price of a broad stock index is reflected in the price of that index. So you don’t need to worry about inflation or productivity…

I have posted a Guest Blog Entry at the My Personal Finance Journey blog. It is called Investors Who Ignore Valuations Are Like Overeaters Who Ignore the Risk of Heart Disease. Juicy Excerpt: Raddr examines the numbers and concludes that: “The poor retiree’s real net worth has dropped nearly two-thirds (from $1,000 to $367) in only 11 years, and he is now withdrawing about 11 percent of his portfolio per year, which is a recipe for disaster even if the market heads up big-time from…

I posted as Guest Blog Entry at the Married (with Debt) blog yesterday. It's called The Buy-and-Hold Myth. Juicy Excerpt: In the used-car market, the price of the car being sold is the result of a battle waged between the car seller and the car buyer. The seller wants a high price. The buyer wants a low one. Each side has to give something or risk seeing the negotiation fall through. The end result of the battle is usually a price that is more or less right. The car-selling market…
“The shift from active to passive asset management, and specifically the decline of active value investors, reduces the ability of the market to prevent and recover from large drawdowns,” Joyce Chang and Jan Loeys wrote in the Monday note. Actively managed accounts make up only about one-third of equity assets under management, with active single-name trading responsible for just 10 per cent or so of trading volume, JPMorgan estimates.
